Photo Critique 11/30/09

So, I picked this picture, because of the lighting and angle of the photo. It gives me a sense of hope and something coming to an end. It seems to give a feel of serenity, but also caution. The focus of the photo is really on three things. The sun, the city below, and the man in prayer.

Best and Worst

This has got to be my worst picture because it is out of focus and to exposed. I took this in a rush and had not that much time left for the assignment. So, this is the product of procrastination and lazyness.

I believe this to be my best picture because it reflects my beliefs and passion. I really like how the light illuminates the bible and gives the celtic cross a small bit glow or shimmer. I am very proud of this.

Review Terms

1. Line- This is used in photography to either frame something or give a sense of shape and character.
2. Texture- This is used by photographing something in depth to get it's form close up. Example: the brak of a tree or the stems of a leaf.
3. Complimetary Colors- The way to use these in photography is mix certain colors together from the color scale in a photo to give it feeling and emotion. Example: Blue/Orange, Yellow/Purple, and Red/Green.
4. Leading Line- How to use these in photography is to find lines that fade into a distance or lines that lead to a destination or solid object and take a picture of that.
5. Pattern- A pattern can be used in photos by finding something or somewhere that is repetative and continues for some distance.
6. Shooting from the hip- I find this to be the most suprising type of photography. You're basically shooting pictures at random without thought and sometimes the photos come out awesome.
7. Rule of thirds- This is very useful and gives the photos some more creativity and emotion. This is where you place a person, place, or object in the sides of the picture. That way the eye is drawn to that instead of the rest of the photo.
8. Motion (Freeze Action)- This is used is to catch a picture of someone or something in motion to make it look completely frozen in place. The reason for this is so the picture may illustrate itself.
9. Motion (Path of Motion)- A path in a photograph of a passing or moving object and person. This can be used best at night with a slow shutter speed in order to catch the trailing lights of the cars in traffic.
10. Depth of Field(More)- This is used to focus on the backround of a picture. This can be interesting in a photo and create a point of view. Such as, looking around a corner or through a hole.
11. Depth of Field(Less)- This is used to focus on the front of the picture. This creates immediate focus of the viewer on the subject because the backround is blurred the front is full with clarity and content.
12. Exposure Bracketing- This is used to let in more or less light into a picture. If it is to dark in a room then that is used to allow any light to flow into the lens. If it is to bright this allows most of the light to be blocked from the lens.
13. Perspective- Like shooting from the hip, this is another form of full creativity. It's mainly photographs that are taken close up or at unique angles.
14. Large jpeg format- Photos that have better quality and less pixalated, but sometimes to large to fit on websites and such.
15. Small jpeg format- Photos with alright quality, a little pixalated, but fits easily on a website or anything else.
